PASSAGE is an immersive, minimalist, contemplative and interactive artwork that explores the emotional connections we develop with light and sound. The concept of the artwork takes root in the definition of the word passage itself: the act of moving through or past something on the way from one place to another, and also the process of transition from one state to another in a temporal dimension. The installation consists of a sound system and a series of lit rings which animates and pulses from the movement of the people walking the passage. Overtime, one can experience many different light and animation configuration, each offering its own ambience and experience.
PASSAGE refers to this enigmatic moment between life and death, that has been documented as near-death experiences (NDE) from testimonies of people who almost passed away. Such experiences may encompass a variety of sensations including detachment from the body, feelings of levitation, total serenity, security, warmth, the experience of absolute dissolution, and the presence of a light. These experiences were taken into consideration in the creation of the artwork, in the conceptual design and in the sound and visual/light design, and is figured here as a pleasant space as part of another temporal dimension. A personal and sensory experience that remains playful.

PASSAGE est une installation à la fois immersive, minimaliste, contemplative et interactive. Le concept de l’oeuvre prend racine dans la définition même du mot passage : l’action de changer de lieu par un mouvement ou un déplacement, et aussi le processus de changer d’état dans une dimension temporelle. L’installation est constituée d’un système sonore et de 20 cercles lumineux qui forment un tunnel que les passants peuvent traverser. La lumière et le son se modulent et pulsent selon plusieurs schémas d’ambiance et se contrôlent directement par les mouvements des passants captés tout au long de ce tunnel.
PASSAGE réfère à ce moment énigmatique entre la vie et la mort, qui a été documentée scientifiquement à partir de nombreux témoignages de gens qui ont vécu des expériences de mort imminente (EMI). Ces expériences inclues : la décorporation, la vision complète de sa propre existence, la vision d’un tunnel, la rencontre avec des entités spirituelles, la vision d’une lumière, un sentiment d’amour infini, de paix et de tranquillité. Cette énumération d’expériences ont été pris en considération dans l’élaboration de l’oeuvre, dans le design conceptuel ainsi que dans le design sonore et visuel/lumière, et est imaginé ici comme un espace agréable faisant partie d’une autre dimension temporelle. L’expérience vécue par le passant est personnelle et sensorielle tout en demeurant très ludique.
